Yep; we've got ballistic missiles by the score that will do the same
thing, on both sides of the pond. Air, of course, is significantly more
of a controlled environment than the sea surface.
(Speaking of which: if I was going to do something like this, I'd design
a sub. Fuel capacity would be a little tough, but it would flatten the
hell out of the environment variables.)
