Hi, unfortunately I can't cut & paste the output of lspci -n and save it anywhere after rebooting from the LiveCD. I tried mounting one of the windows partitions but as they are NTFS I was only allowed to mount them read only... (I'm sure on my other machine I count mount NTFS rw?)

Why not? :) Gpm should be working on the CD. Here's what I would do:
Run lspci -n as Alexander requested. Highlight the output. Run either mutt or thunderbird (thunderbird might be eaiser to configure). To paste the contents into a new mail message, click the middle mouse button. (If you don't have a middle mouse button, click the left and right buttons together.) Send the message here. :)

Configuring thunderbird from memory was not an option. I couldn't remember which email account/alias/password etc...

I have written the output of lspci to a log file but from Windows I can't read EXT3 partitons... I'll get round to it.

Sure you can. :)

/dev/hda LiveCD self-discovery works
/dev/hdb LiveCD self-discovery fails.

When you've booted into the LiveCD on the first drive, can you mount and read CDs in the second drive?

Will try that later - might be early next week now. Am away for the weekend.

Once last thing. I wanted to do a quick and dirty build so I could get cracking. BUT the nALFS profile is WAY OUT from the sources in /lfs-sources. The profile is based on LFS 6.1 while the lfs-sources look to be a recent development build (gcc-4.0.2?), Patches that I can't find in the patch directories on lfs(from memory something-specs-2?).

I gave up.

I'll come back to it next week.

Thanks

Alan
