Does anyone know if that'd be good to put along with the messages when somone hits F1 for options when the livecd starts using kernels >= 2.6.14?
The next pre-release LiveCD will use linux-2.6.16-rc4 unconditionally, unless Linus releases 2.6.16 sooner.
However, the situation will be more complex around linux-2.6.17: they want to deprecate drivers/ide for regular IDE (PATA) disks and replace them with libata. So, my /dev/hda will become /dev/sda (not a problem for me at all with LVM2, actually). But, in current -mm kernels, libata is slower for my hardware (via) than drivers/ide.
So, some people will want to switch to libata, and some (like me) will probaby stick to old ide drivers (unless that slowdown is fixed). So, we need to give both an opportunity to choose the driver. This probably requires returning to shell-based init.
