Takes less than a minute. Is dd for this something new? dd is going to be destructive... but the alternatives offer non-destructive ways I think. I could be wrong on that. dd also only outputs what it was given whereas the other two offer additional features like being able to create persistent storage, a separate home partition, and even an encrypted home partition (all on the USB media). That is for running a live system from and having persistent storage across boots.
