It does boot up and there is an icon for "Install to hard drive".
Dare I trust it with the sha256 sums not matching?

I addressed that my last post... but to restate... the checksum isn't for you
to check the written media with... but for verifying that your download was
good.

"dd" seems to be a really sweet way to install this to a flash
drive. Takes less than a minute. Is dd for this something new?

dd is going to be destructive... but the alternatives offer non-destructive
ways I think. I could be wrong on that. dd also only outputs what it was
given whereas the other two offer additional features like being able to create
persistent storage, a separate home partition, and even an encrypted home
partition (all on the USB media). That is for running a live system from and
having persistent storage across boots.

TYL,

Hi TYL,

I have used those other methods before, but I do not remember
"Install to hard drive" showing up.

I also have a full (not Live) install of FC23 on a flash drive
that I use for maintenance purposes. Lately, I have used
it for Windows users that can't remember their passwords
(ntchpw). I call it my "Dead Stick".

And last night, my shop computer lost its 15+ years old used
hard drive, so I was on my Dead Stick all night. I "suppose"
I should finally break down a buy a new hard drive. Perhaps.

I find that a full install much easier to deal with than
a LIVE USB, especially if I want to copy to and from it,
with my ability to mount the drive as a standard EXT4 flash
drive.

But the ISO is just heaven for doing new installs of Xfce.
