Guys, as far as I understand LMMS is generally modelled after FL Studio. It
is a good idea since FL Studio is a very capable sequencer. Why not make
window work same as in FL Studio? It has MDI, but it does not create any
mess.

As I pointed out a lot of times on this mailing list, while sometimes you
indeed have difficulties dragging windows around because the top of the
window which you can drag is out of reach, the biggest problem that borders
on actual functionality is the ability to open several instruments at a
time. Fixing this alone would be a much greater benefit then rearranging the
way windows look and here's why:

At the moment in order to play an instrument you have to make its window
active. This makes it difficult to tweak effects. You would want to change
effects and at the same time constantly play notes with your computer
keyboard, checking the result of your tweaking. Now it is not possible. You
have to tweak, then click on the Instrument window to make it active, only
then play. (using a midi keyboard is not asolution because 1. one might not
have one 2. without good jack support latency is too big to use a midi
keyboard).

On the other hand, if it was possible to open only ONE instrument window, so
that if another instrument opens, the Instrument Windows just changes to the
selected instrument (like in FL Studio, basically), then at any given time
LMMS would "know" what instrument to play and it would finally be possible
to play the keyboard of the selected instrument without switching its window
to the foreground.

Please, consider this. It might be simpler to do (correct me if I am wrong),
then rearranging all the looks, but would add very important usability and
add speed to the workflow.

Cheers!

Louigi Verona.
