Yes, SongEditor needs a rewrite. Paul Giblock once began with QGraphicsView
framework in the master branch but AFAIK there hasn't been a usable result
yet.

I totally agree. A few years ago I rewrote undo/redo support in a separate
branch based on the master branch. I just backported all these changes and
committed them into the "stable-0.4-undo-redo" branch. It's not mature yet
but way better than what we had before. We even have undo/redo support in
PianoRoll now. Any bug reports and patches are welcome so we can merge this
branch maybe even for the next release.
- lack of interpolated automation (vector-based instead of sample-based)

whether we can integrate it.
