Ok sorry for the 3xposting, but just to rule out this being caused by
something in the project itself (it is a big one), I reverted back to
the last stable version (lucky I keep backup debs of all my compiles,
eh) and tried rendering with the same settings - it renders fine, to the
end. So the problem is definitely in the recent changes.

If there's anything else I can do to help diagnose this just let me know.
