>From themability point of view, it doesn't really matter - people doing their own themes can replace the graphics (and usually want to anyway) and use bitmaps or vectors, whichever they want. Right now there isn't even support for .svg in place yet, so any vector graphics need to be converted to .png anyway. There's really no advantage in using vectors as of right now. Later on, we might want some widgets to be scalable, and that's when vectors can be advantageous. But that's probably not in the short term, so for now, I'm just going to say, if you want to use vectors, use vectors, but it's not mandatory.
