The minimized windows can be an issue as well... it might be nice
to dock them as tabs, like a web browser does, up top. I tend to

I can't speak to the work involved, but from my limited experience
with the GUI elements (trying to wrap the toolbar in a flowing layout
was my first stab at this stuff) it appears there is quite a bit of
work to get a drastic change such as dock-able windows. If it ever
happens, it would be quite the overhaul as I believe every GUI element
would have to be rewritten. Docking can have the unintended effect of
making dialogs that we're used to having several open, to now be
singleton. If you think about the impact of (for example) a singleton
instrument dialog or a singleton effects dialog... it might not be
well received.
After learning Ableton's interface, I think this is the direction to
go, as you don't find yourself CTRL + TABing through the interface to
get back to a piano roll, however this change would be monumental from
my understanding of the codebase.

Yeah... that is probably for a time when they rewrite everything using
Paul's new sound engine. that is probably for LMMS 4.0.0
I am definitely glad for the direction things are going though!! I have
grown very fond of this program since I started using it. And like many
on this list, I am so fond of it I had to find a way to chip in and make
it better for others (even if I can't code that well yet)
