No, it would not. There's already the option in settings to only have
one instrument open at a time. I've tried it, I can't work that way,
it's just too weird. I like being able to arrange the workspace in
whatever way I like. I like leaving instrument windows lying around in
places where I'm likely to use them - for example, I can put instruments
whose knobs I'm likely to automate next to the song editor...

I think what we really need is some better window management. Ways to
arrange subwindows into workspaces/views, better minimize-functionality
(docking may be an option, but it must be implemented in a modular way,
not making the instruments single-use only). Window snapping (snap
windows to each other & parent window borders).

I never find myself tabbing through the interface to get back to piano
roll. I keep the song editor at the top, mixer and bb-editor in the
middle, and piano roll in the bottom, then scroll vertically between the
windows as needed. Easy to switch with the scrollwheel of the mouse.
