Installing debs is pretty easy - you can just double-click on them and
it should open up the package installer (GDebi on mint, not sure about
Ubuntu).

A PPA would work though, if someone would take the job of maintaining it
(and would really maintain it, too). I'm just thinking .debs might be
easier for someone who's new to Linux and still used to the windows way
of doing things - that's the demographic that's most likely to be hurt
by this Ubuntu repository fiasco.
