Well, I think our default template is still a bit up in the air in terms of
how a default project starts, but this "first time" functionality would
require code which we don't necessarily have, and we already have the
software asking a bunch of questions on first run anyways... questions that
actually pertain to making music, such as default home path, sound options,
etc.
To put a message about our site would best be done in the existing area as
musikbear proposed, but now projects modified and saved will have our
message with them, and it will happen on every new project unless the
default functionality gets changed to accommodate the first run.
Either way, it's something that no user has ever asked for, just our QA/QC
team. Our testers and developers should work on stuff that is being asked
for, not try to predict what people want and jam it down their throats.
This "MOTD" mentality, or "HEY I THINK YOU NEED HELP" was a 90s software
disease and it sickens me to still see it in modern software. There are a
few examples where it works, but the vast majority of productivity software
has gotten rid of it. If you want Clippy, switch back to office 97. :)
We have 8,000 downloads a week, but we don't have 8,000 new forum users or
8,000 new bug reports. Please be considerate of the majority of users when
you recommend something like this. I really don't think this feature is
warranted. Sorry if that sounds overly opinionated. :)
