Dear All,

First of all a very Happy New Year to everybody!! :o)

Following Bert forwarding me a mail from Natalie I have had a look at some
of the pages in Natalie's combined review. First of all, I think it's great
somebody is bringing it all together, this can only make things better.
However, it is very upsetting to read the comments regarding the quality of
the translation. I'm not saying we are perfect, but it seems rather harsh.
There is an enormous chunk of the Help we never set eyes on. What is from us
and what isn't? Is all that is found, counted against us?
We would have changed things like:

[English] You can <emph>activate</emph> and <emph>deactivate</emph> a
breakpoint by selecting <emph>Active</emph> from its context menu. When a
breakpoint is deactivated, it does not interrupt the program execution.

[Dutch] De eigenschappen van een Breekpunt definiƫren

[English] Select the library that you want to edit.</ahelp> The first module
of the library that you select is displayed in the Basic IDE

[Dutch] In deze keuzelijst kunt u omschakelen naar de eerste module van een
bibliotheek. Slecteer de bibliotheek die u wilt bewerken uit de keuzelijst.
Direct daarna wordt de eerste module weergegeven in de Basic-IDE.

Doing this complete review is good, it's needed, though I feel the old
translations have led to a lot of frustation on both sides.

I don't know if this is outdated by now, if so I apologise, but in Natalie's
mail which Bert kindly forwarded to me she queried the translation of a few
specific examples:

Delete - Translation found: Wissen Glossary: Verwijderen
Toolbar - Translation found: Balk Glossary: Werkbalk
Refresh - Translation found: Actualiseren Glossary: Vernieuwen

I've checked these. I'm afraid it's difficult to find the Toolbar one (In a
particular review the request is to translate 'Bar' as 'Werkbalk', but we
did this in order to distinguish it from 'Toolbar', which had already been
translated as 'Werkbalk'.). I have found 'Wissen' wrongly used for 'Delete'.
I can think of reasons why this happened, but the fact remains, it's
incorrect, and I'm glad it was picked up. I've searched for 'Actualiseren',
which doesn't seem to occur in our files. All I can think of is that this
stems from a previous version.

Some suggested changes involve changing software (i.e. "Aanroepstack" to
"Aanroepen" and "Meerdere bewerkingen" to "Meervoudige operaties"). I don't
always understand. "Meerdere bewerkingen" (Multiple operations) was
discussed during the software review and the outcome was "Meerdere
bewerkingen". During translation of the Help it is always possible you
discover a software option should have been translated differently. But I'm
not sure what to follow now. I also thought the software was frozen. What
would be done in OOo in such cases?

I've also noticed that some corrections concern additions to the original
English (i.e. steps in a path). That is something we do not allow ourselves
to do.

I hope this clarifies some things, but if I've missed anything, please let
me know.

Kind regards,
Nicole
