Good stuff..

There are a number of dependencies outside of the Chainsaw package that
I rely on, specifically an updated DTD, LoggingEvent and XMLLayout. I
also use an updated UDPAppender to send multicast XMLLayout'ed messages,
but UDPAppender isn't in the org.apache.log4j.net package..I got it from
somewhere, where did it get moved to? It's got the Apache license
applied, so I assume it's an official contribution.

I'll submit those first, since my changes won't work without them and
they shouldn't break anything existing. If people don't like what I
named the elements in the DTD, feel free to change them.

We just had a baby so I don't have a lot of time to work on this each
week, but let me look at refactoring the sorting code out and conforming
to the Plugin model and using the latest commits to Chainsaw and I'll be
back with some code.

By the way, I should be able to support MDI by making the tab panes
undockable/dockable. This should allow the side-by-side viewing of
events if you want them.

I need a way to save/load the fact that Chainsaw supports a UDPReceiver
and discover it's multicast address. Not sure how. I'll look in the
sandbox and the tip, but if someone knows has opinions on how this
should be done, please let me know.

I'd be happy to post some screen caps somewhere of the windows if
someone suggests a location to upload.

Thanks,
Scott

I'll go an update the Todo since the Chainsaw appender->Receiver model
is effectively done, and add an overview of the the features Scott has
in his code (since I would vote for those features, however they are
implemented).

My guess is that the Filtering/highlighting changes should be easy to
integrate into the Receiver model approach pretty easily (cross
fingers), and perhaps we defer the "whatever the Multiple
Tab/Doc/Instance" feature is until the advanced filtering/highlighting
is kicking along nicely. Scott, I can help with any integration effort?

cheers,

Paul Smith
