Hi All,
Very soon we will be putting together a pretty detailed set of Documentation for Chainsaw v2, it will contain:
* Quick Start Guide * User Manual
Does anyone have any comments regarding whether these documents should be:
* Embedded within Chainsaw (HTML) - This is nice and portable, but makes the app a bit more heavy, size-wise.
That depends. If it is packaged separately from log4j.jar, then it really doesn't matter that much. Can't imagine it will be *that* big anyway.
* Part of the Log4 web-site (HTML), accessed externally by the user (perhaps referenced as explict URL's within the GUI.) - This allows us to update the Documentation independent of the software.
Could ship the docs with the app, but then keep updated docs on-line. Either way, they should be accessible outside the app itself.
* external PDF - Nice to print
Write it in an XML format (docbook?) and transform it to any format you want including PDF. No need to have either/or when you can have it all :-)
Also, if there is anyone that would like to volunteer as an proof reader/editor, we would be eternally grateful.
I can sure try if I have the time. I'm sure more than a few people could find the time to do this.
Jake
