Your stacktrace indicates you have at least one appender with a pattern layout
containing %xEx (or %xException or %xThrowable). I don't see how else
ExtendedThrowablePatternConverter could be invoked...
Could there be another log4j2.xml config file in the classpath somewhere? Of do
you use XInclude to have a nested config element ({{<xi:include href="somefile"
/>}}).
