I would also like to do a release soon, but what we have so far "feels" more 
like a bugfix release. I don't think we have enough new functionality yet to 
call it 2.7...

If the MessageFactory2 return type change is key, then I would not mind taking 
it out temporarily for 2.6.2, and immediately adding it back for the next 
release. If I'm not mistaken Mikael needs this for the Scala module but 
otherwise there's no urgent need for this change. 

The direct option is technically a new feature but I still think 2.6.2 
characterizes better what we have so far.
