This is interesting. The ruby-lang.org website lists a lot of patches over the basic ruby 1.8.6. I read that patch level 230 fixes security vulnerabilities, but also introduces problems with a few rails apps. To the point that the guys from Ruby Enterprise Edition did release a version based on patch level 111 (rails apps friendly), with backported security fixes. Anyway. The latest ruby 1.8.6 is now at patch level 287. You say "We use 1.8.6", did you follow through the patches or do you just run the (gasp*insecure*gasp) vanilla 1.8.6 ?
