I would like to point out that just adding the topic to the objectives doesn't mean that it will remain. Once the Job Task Analysis (the survey where everyone votes) is complete, we'll know which side of this debate the majority of people are on. That said, I added SQL (basics queries and data manipulation) because: a) every single one of the techies at Starnix has had to do, at least, a little bit of SQL-based tasks during their support role in the last couple of years b) I'm getting some management folk (no names ;) to use ODBC and generate their own reports. They're doing some basic SQL themselves. (and if management can do it...) Anecdotal, yes. But I'm seeing that it is a useful topic to have some passing knowledge on. And, as I mentioned, if I am wrong, the votes will weight down the SQL objective and it won't be on the final objectives. > reason. Look at an Intrusion Detection System (Snort/Barnyard/BASE (Acid)), > System Monitoring Package (Nagios), Hardware Monitoring via Vendor code, > etc. The list is pretty long so SQL queries are becoming more useful in daily > Administrative jobs. Granted, they do not need to be DB admins but knowledge > of the syntax or where to get the syntax is very important. The main thing that I should point out about the changes to LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 in this update is that we are moving most (almost all) of the 'hard core' administrative objectives to LPIC-2. LPIC-1 is going to be a 'core' certification and branch point for Linux professionals. They can continue down the LPIC-2/3 route if they are admins or (fingers crossed) they can go down a OSS/Linux Developer track (or a DBA track or ...). NOTE: there are no formal plans for a developer or DBA track but I'm trying :-D -- g. matthew rice <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> starnix care, toronto, ontario, ca phone: 647.722.5301 x242 gpg id: EF9AAD20 http://www.starnix.com professional linux services & products _______________________________________________ lpi-examdev mailing list [email protected] http://list.lpi.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/lpi-examdev
