No, please don't. As Sander wrote, there will be for a long time lots of 
systems (still) using /etc/inittab.

Please don't think about Ubuntu and Fedora only. Don't forget SUSE which at 
least until 10.3 only uses /etc/inittab. There is no /etc/event.d/ in 
SUSE. I have to check what is used in 11.0 but I doubt it will be upstart.
