Well, kernel source resides in /usr/src/<kernel ver> with link to 
/usr/src/linux. Having more than one kernel source, you need to check the 
softlink for /usr/src/linux before asking for /usr/src/linux/.config ;-)

Better ask for the kernel config file ".config" or on the life system and if 
enabled /proc/config[.gz].
