It tends to be a disservice to businesses that have tried it more than a value. Timely communications is critical in this day and age. To quite IBM "Agility" is how business gets done. Having the ability to deliver email in a timely manor is a critical component of agility. > I also believe that anti-virus should be moved from the messaging test > and put in the security exam, as e-mail is not the only way for viruses > to enter a system. I can see your point with AV; however, I would argue that it belongs in both for two different reasons. Security folks need to deal with file system and network traffic in general what will pass through AV; whereas AV for the mail admin is very specific and has very different integration requirements. I see the mailadmin and security teams giving directions to the server build teams and change control teams that approve changes before they go into production. The AV message may seem similar, but it is truly different in application, implementation, and integration if it is done right.
SA is probably the only viable open source free choice. There are many commercial solutions for Anti-SPAM. Cloudmark is one of more reliable products that we have used. I can talk to my techs if you want a more complete list. > LDAP integration seems appropriate to me, given it's popularity for > addressbooks and the like. In most installations of SA one typically uses mySQL. So I think that it still applies, but in a different context. > I also believe that authentication mechanisms should be included. That is a tough one, as there are a lot of choices here. Well over three dozen that I have first than experience. Pronto from Communigate Pro, Zimbra, Groupwise, SWA, OWA, ... Granted these are commercial solutions in most cases, but most are open development environments and some do offer source. Once can even get source from Microsoft these days for OWA. Granted that does not run naively on Linux, but I have many customers virtualizing it in Linux environments. > What about iCal and other calendaring solutions?
