I agree that LPIC-1 is more like general Linux usage (more for linux
power Users).
On the other hand, each Linux class I ever taught, I had, at one point
or another, to explain to the students how to use their virtual
machines to do their labs (either VMware or VirtualBox, or qemu-kvm,
or OpenVZ). This is why I think it's an important subject: because (at
least my) students always end up using virtual machines for their labs
(either in the class room or at home).
