Again, remove NetworkManager/nmcli from the discussion.  It's unrelated.  ;)

The "net-tools" package in Debian, Fedora, etc... has been deprecated
since late last decade.  Anything built around them is deprecated as
well.

Including the legacy if* scripts and tools deprecated in many distros
back by the late '00s.

Everything that can be done, should be done, with the "iproute"
(technically, it's "iproute2") package.  Don't let the name fool you,
it's not just "routing".

That is what Upstream, especially kernel developers, have asked since the '00s.
