I have been using a more modern 'file' utility and for some time. Version 3.26
which I obtained from the LPRng FTP site as a matter of fact. May be you recall
a while back that we already cleared the issue of using the UCB 'file'
distribution with Solaris 8 which prevents LPRng from printing at all. In any
event, I rev'ed the version of 'file' to 3.26 at that point and things work(ed)
fine w/o 'pclbanner' printing. The other banners work.

Upon your suggestion, I obtained the most latest rev. of the 'file' utility that I
could fine: v. 3.31 (anyone aware of a bloodier version?). Bumped up to LPRng
3.6.19 and IFHP 3.3.17 as well.

The issue remains, unfortunately. This is trivial, really, and, as you know, is
only worthy of attention in order to make LPRng as functional as possible across a
variety of platforms. Hey, it prints.

What is the significance of your following indication from your last e-mail:

"rm config.cache
./configure

after you install file."
