I've got an open call with Xerox/Tek/whatever for a similar problem with a 
Phaser 850.  There are two things they suspect may be causing the printer to 
hang:

        - The printer doesn't like RIP packets.  At all.
        - The printer doesn't like network node numbers higher than a certain
          value.  When asking "what is that", the technician didn't know.

Anyway, we have disabled RIP traffic on our printer network, and the old 
Phaser 850 hasn't hung since.  It was kind of intermittent as for when it 
would hang.  Maybe the VxWorks TCP stack in that thing doesn't deal with RIP 
properly.  Who knows.

If you can firewall it off with no RIP traffic, though, give it a try...you 
may find the printer gasps a little longer before it falls over and dies...
