Hello everyone!
I am currently trying out LPRng-3.6.24 on a RedHat Linux 6.2 box and is
encountering some problems and is wondering if anyone knows how to solve
it.
I currently have a HP LaserJet 4000N with a Jetdirect card installed. I
have configured TCP/IP on the Jetdirect and I can ping it, print to it
etc just fine. I configured LPRng to act as a print spool for the
Jetdirect with the following info in /etc/printcap.
test|hp laserjet 4000 printer
:server
:lp=LPT1_PASSTHRU@test-printer
:lpd_bounce
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/test-printer
As for my /etc/lpd.conf, I am using the stock lpd.conf with the only
modification being :-
# Purpose: force clients to send all requests to localhost
force_localhost@
All is working well except when the jetdirect is down or uncontactable.
The print jobs will get queued up in the print spool and won't go away
until someone manually clears it away via a lprm -Ptest all.
>From the info in the lpd.conf file, it says :-
# Purpose: failure action to take after send_try attempts failed
# default send_failure_action=remove (STRING)
# Purpose: numbers of times to try sending job - 0 is infinite
# default send_try=3 (INTEGER)
The status file says :-
connecting to 'test-printer', attempt 17 at 2000-11-08-21:14:05.335 ##
A=root@home+365 number=365 process=26367
sleeping 60 secs before retry, starting sleep at 2000-11-08-21:14:08.335
## A=root@home+365 number=365 process=26367
connecting to 'test-printer', attempt 18 at 2000-11-08-21:15:08.331 ##
A=root@home+365 number=365 process=26367
And the list goes on and on. I thought after retrying for 3 times, LPRng
will delete away the print job? Is there anyway to make the print jobs
auto delete away after being unable to print after 3 attempts.
On a side note, is there anyway to make LPRng auto kill and remove away
any print jobs that stays in the print queue for more than say 10 mins?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
