I have just installed LPRng-3.7.4, and it has given me no end of
problems when printing
to our HP Deskjet 1600 cm, which has an HP Jetdirect card (firmware
revision A.05.05.)
I have found that as soon as any communication takes place between
lprng and the device it hangs and never responds again to either telnet
or print requests. It is always pingable though. Even setting the
timeout to a small number does not help. As a work around I have moved
the queue to a red hat linux machine which runs bog standard lpd, and
that works fine.
This seems similar to the problem reported by Stuart Marshall.
I had run for several months under earlier versions of LPRng and it had
been flaky but usable, this version is definitely not usable with this
device. Our other two networked printers, a Xerox and Dec device are
fine too.
