LPRng version: 3.7.4 Server OS: Slackware x86 with a 2.4 kernel Client OS: MacOS 9.0.4 with the Apple Desktop Printer LPR printing. Desription of the problem: I turned Fully Qualified Domain Name resolution on so I could be sure the get the full DNS name of anyone submitting a job, but ran into a weird snag with Macintoshes submitting jobs via LPR. If the file sharing name of the macintosh was a single name, for example "iBerry", LPRng would resolve the name as iBerry.lib.utah.edu when the actuall IP would be something like public27.lib.utah.edu. When the file sharing name was something like "Fred's Macintosh" the FQDN resolution would work properly again. Easy work-around: make sure all the Mac's names are the same as their IP names. Yes, I know. But we are eventually planning on trying to support students printing from their laptops they bring in, and it would be cumbersome to get them to comply. At any rate I thought I'd mention it in hopes of an easy fix. Thanks.
