I have been very pleased with Xerox N4525's. We have some really bad
environments here in manufacturing and they are real work horses. Even
in areas with large amounts of dirt (like our weld shop that is full of
welding soot and our aluminum extrusion area that is full of graphite
used in the extrusion process). I am extremely pleased with the printer,
not quite so pleased with the driver. In a few areas, we have even used
an HP4V/MV postscript driver on these printers to handle some special
tray assignments because the Xerox driver gave us trouble. But as far as
speed and durability, the N4525 has been absolutely outstanding. Very
few service calls.

Subject: LPRng: Experiences with printers

Hi *,

We have about twelve HP-4550DN series Laserprinters that needs to be
replaced. I was just wondering if you guys would share any experiences
with new HP's or any other brand in the sense of do or don't or must or
must (absolutely) not as far as compatibility or operational issues are
concerned. We're not very happy with the HP's because of the postscript
emulator and the huge amount of easy breakable plastic it was
constructed with and, they are sloooww. What I'm basically looking for
is some good advice on a printer workhorse that works well (with
LPRng/ifhp and the likes), has a robust construction (users get angry
some of the times; this thing must be able to resist or better yet:
scare them!), is fast and last but not least has a *real* postscript
interpreter (*no* emulation). Oh yeah, socket-API or appsocket capable
would be nice too.

Any advice/comments would be highly appreciated.

TIA

P.S. What do you think of those combi copiers/printers?
