I use snmp on 4250, and accounting works fine (pjl worked for 4000/4050/4100/4500, as does snmp).

in my /etc/printcap, I use:
   :ifhp=model=hp4200,a4,snmp_monitor,waitend=snmp

Firstly, nice to see this list fit and working again.

Has anyone been able to get page accounting working successfully with an HP Laserjet 4200 (or 4100 or 4300)? Some previous list traffic seems to indicate that some people may have gotten this to work but I can't for the life of me get it to do page counts (start and end page count are always the same resulting in 0 page jobs). If you have this working would you mind replying with (relevant portions of) your printcap? I'm using lprng 3.8.27 and ifhp 3.5.17.

I've just started looking at accounting for our systems and I think I'm seeing a similar problem. I'm not using ifhp, but instead using my own program to query the printer for page count information. I assume that you are printing to port 9100 on the printer? It appears that, when doing this, the printer is still in the process of printing the job when it is queried for its 'end' pagecount, therefore making it the same as the 'start' one. I'm going to have a trawl through the archives to see if I can come up with anything useful.
