|I have a similar problem booting a Dell GXM 5133 with a 3c509 isa nic
|(built-in the mobo). The problem is ISA plug and play. I cannot turn off
|plug & play in either the BIOS or using a jumper or switch. I have tried
|altering the ltsp configs to announce the isa card, its irq and port
|address, but that hasn't worked. My only solution is to disable the 3c509
|nic or remove it and install a pci nic if there is a pci slot available.

Please find at the following URL the 3com setup/testing tool for 3c509
EtherLink III cards, running under dos:

ftp://ftp.ihg.uni-duisburg.de/Hardware/3com/3c5x9n/3C5X9CFG.EXE

I hope it will work all right even if the ethernet card is built in the
motherboard.

  I quote from the Ethernet-HOWTO:

3c509B users should use either the supplied DOS utility to disable the plug
and play support, and to set the output media to what they require. The linux
driver currently does not support the Autodetect media setting, so you have to
select 10Base-T or 10Base-2 or AUI.
