Hello, Although I am a newbie in using LTSP it would like to try to help you somehow.
First of all I think you should review your configuration files, especially those in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc (try grepping the default values for your settings), I had this kind of problem when I fist installed LTSP 3.0.x (even tough I choosed 192.168.0.1 as my server and 192.168.0.254 as my default router, in 4 different places I had 192.168.0.254 as my server - watch the logs on your default router machine). After careful examinations and some changes it all worked for me, and now I am a really happy L(tsp)user. Second ... the symlinks are used by the newly created machine, that means they are there just for your terminals after they mount the root fs from nfs and chroot (using /tmp as their temp folder in which the unique files are created for each terminal machine). I really hope that answers to some of your problems, if not, please excuse me, I was just trying to help and I really down want to waste your time. PS: Please excuse my crappy engrish.
