Hello Georg,

Thanks for your help.  I replaced x-core 3.0.4 with x-core 3.0.1-1.  This did 
not fix the problem of X not starting.  Eventually I discovered that the rpm 
-Uvh operation seemed to have overwrote lts.conf (and without making a 
backup).  In so doing monitor parameters were lost.
