Thanks Michel,

I agree that OpenOffice should be my solution but the problem is
specifically Excel 97. It appears that my client uses Excel 97 in ALL there
branches and over the past 7 years they have developed spreadsheets with
heavily involved Macro's. Office 2000 even has major problems when trying to
run these macro's so I can imagine OpenOffice would be a problem, at this
stage.

Some of the replies told you about Open Office. If you'r going to Linux then
LTSP; Open Office is your solution.
Here I can open, modify and save Office 97 files in their original format
without problems. So may be the same to you.
