Leah,

In your lts.conf file, set SCREEN_01 = shell

Then, when you boot the client, you'll get a bash prompt.  At that
point, you can type:  startx

that will build the XF86Config file, and launch the Xserver for you.
Then, hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

That will exit the Xserver and return you back to the shell prompt.
Then, look in /tmp on the client and you should see XF86Config.1

At this point, you can scp the file back to the server.  You may need to
specify the server IP address instead of the name.
