Having real problems with getting xdmcp to run. Have tried all the
howtos & help on the wiki to no effect & been trying on & off for
several weeks now.

I have no trouble getting X, dhcp etc to run on my terminals. I am
running xdm without other problems on the server. I have gone through
the setup routing several times to no effect. It says xdmcp not running.
I have checked all xdm files against all the help I can find to no
effect & can find nothing in the logs to see what is going wrong.

I hace had LTSP running before but stopped for a while while I dealt
with other priorities when I got a new server.

Will put up any info that will help but don't want to put up a load of
stuff which is not of any help so let me know what may help & I'll
gladly put it up.

Hi Steve--
- what distro?
- firewall preventing things?
- XDMCP not enabled/allowed in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm ?

Distro - Debian testing

No firewalls on the system except between my internal network & the internet, IPCop on a separate machine. DHCP & DNS not on the firewall, which is just pure firewall, but on the server. shouldn't be an issue as far as I can see & wasn't last time I had LTSP running

/etc/opt/ exists but is empty (I'm running XDM not KDM)
XDMCP is enabled in /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess with the two lines:-

# the following line was added by ltspcfg

*    # Allow remote connects

Also the standard bit in xdm.config

! DisplayManager.requestPort:0

is, as shown, commented out.

Thanks for your help. I'm afraid this is doing my head in. I can't see what I can be missing & don't know where else to look.

Steve
