Just one comment from my side, Verner: I have the same problem with a Suse 9.1 system, and my idea was that it might be the Suse plugger which I deactivated on most accounts as I feared it might pop up on the students' screens when I inserted something in the USB ports of the server. So I have to mount the drive myself, but the plugger is still there, maybe it blocks something?
