I haven't been near an AS/400 in years... but if you have TCP/IP, LTSP
provides a built-in JetDirect! Simply connect a printer to a terminal's
parallel port, then edit lts.conf:
[terminalname]
PRINTER_0_TYPE = P
PRINTER_0_DEVICE = /dev/lp0
Restart the terminal, and it should listen to port 9100. Like a
JetDirect, it will print everything that it receives on this port.
Then, configure the AS/400 just as you would for a JetDirect, using the
IP of the terminal, and port 9100.
Here is an example RTVCFGSRC I found on Google for a HP 4050. Since it
is RTVCFGSRC, all parameters appear, even though most of them are the
command defaults.
CRTDEVPRT DEVD(NLDACCT) DEVCLS(*LAN) TYPE(3812) MODEL(1) +
LANATTACH(*IP) PORT(9100) ATTACH(*DIRECT) ONLINE(*YES) +
FONT(011 *NONE) FORMFEED(*AUTOCUT) SEPDRAWER(*FILE) +
PRTERRMSG(*INQ) MSGQ(*CTLD) ACTTMR(600) INACTTMR(*SEC15) +
LINESPEED(19200) WORDLEN(8) PARITY(*NONE) STOPBITS(1) +
TRANSFORM(*YES) MFRTYPMDL(*HP4000) PPRSRC1(*LETTER) +
PPRSRC2(*LETTER) ENVELOPE(*NUMBER10) ASCII899(*YES) +
IMGCFG(*NONE) CHRID(*SYSVAL) RMTLOCNAME('192.168.45.44') +
SYSDRVPGM(*HPPJLDRV) +
TEXT('Sample HP4050 printer')
The RMTLOCNAME is the IP address of the terminal.
If your version of AS/400 doesn't support JetDirect, it probably speaks
"lpr". In which case, install CUPS on the LTSP *server*, make sure the
lpd mode is enabled, and then configurer CUPS to send print jobs to port
9100 on the terminal.
If it doesn't support neither JetDirect nor LPR, then you can install a
third-party applications like http://as400tcpipprinting.com on a Windows
station which will act like a bridge between the AS/400 and the LTSP
terminal acting as a jetdirect.
There's always more than one way to do it!
