Interestingly, the device is being detected as device name:

   /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/disc

Which in "/opt/ltsp/i386/etc/udev/scripts/ltsp-device.sh" matches the case:

  /dev/*/lun0/disc)  LTSP_DEVTYPE="floppy"

As I've disabled floppy access in the kernel, I'm tempted to just change the 
work "floppy" to "disk"... Done. All now working as far as I can tell; 
hopefully if I've committed some heinous crime someone will let me know :-).
