There is something wrong with Java GUI applications on LTSP 5.

The GUI is *extremely* sluggish. It takes around 5 seconds for a file
to appear in an editor after a double-click, or for a menu to open.

The problem is Java-specific: it manifests in two Java-based applications
(NetBeans and oXygen), and nowhere else (actually, image scrolling in Firefox
is also very slow, but this may be unrelated).

Also, changing the look-and-feel used by the application changes the speed:
with default GTK look-and-feel everything takes twice as long :(

The problem is LTSP-specific: the same applications work fine on the
server itself.

The problem is LTSP 5-specific: the same applications work fine on LTSP 4.2.

The problem is not distribution-specific: I am using Fedora 9, but this
(ignored) report mentions the issue on Ubuntu:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=823122

How can I help tracking this issue down?
What parameters affecting the way applications connect to the X server can
I tweak - both in the LTSP configuration and in the Java application?

Thanks!
