If you're running on a GigE switch or even a 100Mb switch, I'd be inclined
to leave compression off.  It'll add extra load both to the client and the
server and potentially may add a latency which could make the client feel
"sluggish".

If you aren't very short of bandwidth, I'd say you're better off with
compression turned off.
