Gnome, sure. Works fine for me. Anyway, due to our student's lab requirements we are moving from thin/fat clients to a minimal gui-less fatclient that in turn starts virtualbox in guest machines. This allows us to provide our students a pool of pre-configured client-side cow VBox environments, mixed with an easy-to-maintain >200 PC's for our lab BTW: your suggested patch for 13.10 also worked.
