I think this would be a great move forwards. I think at the same time
as providing this new upgrade feature, it would be worth either
improving the configure script to detect more common cases (e.g.
includes at /usr/include/lua5.1 on Debian/Ubuntu) or providing more
documentaion for common distros. The reason for this is that for many
users, manual installation may become preferred to using the
distribution-provided luarocks package.
