I know it's weird. Philipp Gesang, from the "Dante" mailing list, who
tried to help me some days ago, did not have the problem either:
$ ls -la /usr/local/texlive/2009/bin/x86_64-linux/lib/lua/luasql/mysql.so
lrwxrwxrwx 2 root root 37 2010-11-11 16:11
/usr/local/texlive/2009/bin/x86_64-linux/lib/lua/luasql/mysql.so ->
../../../liblua5.1-sql-mysql.so.2.0.0
On my machine I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx. I did not install
Texlive from the repository but manually using the Texlive 2009
installation, which updated to 2010 meanwhile.
The error messages are the same on my laptop with Ubuntu Lucid and Texlive
from the Ubuntu repository (LuaTeX Version beta-0.50.0-2010010505). But
$ kpsewhich --expand-var \$CLUAINPUTS
on the laptop returns
$CLUAINPUTS
I did not find a place where to copy the mysql.so there because I don't
understand where the Ubuntu installs the libs form Texlive.

I have done so with
sudo tlmgr --repository http://tlcontrib.metatex.org/2010 update luatex
which did not change the error, and with
sudo tlmgr --repository http://tlcontrib.metatex.org/2010 update --all
Now I have:
$ luatex --version
This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.64.0-2010111216
Running the test gives the messages I append.
Weird, as it works for me. Granted, I am on x86_64, but that should not
really make a difference. Are you absolutely sure that you now have:
/usr/local/texlive/2009/bin/x86_64-linux/lib/lua/luasql/mysql.so
and that it is readable?
Best wishesm
