I just load the alpha on a 128MB Vbox, it's slow but you can launch application without problem. Is it the whole desktop which crash or only the application ?

This used to work in Alphas 1 & 2. I can't reproduce it for the move to the top. You could try to remove your config file and logout/login back. But the transparency doesn't work for me too.
