Comment #13 tests out some of the theory we have come up with, and that
Rafael has been advocating for.
tl;dr;
changing the desktop file from
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/icon.xpm
to
Icon=icon
fixes the issue altogether.
Someone commented that it affected Xubuntu 12.10 & 13.10 as well.
