Perhaps this should be posted for comment over on lucene-user for those folks that 
don't frequent the dev list. I'm in favor of moving to 1.4 and relegating anyone using 
a pre 1.4 vm to the 1.3 lucene release.

+1 for 1.4 also.

If folks need Lucene in 1.3 or 1.2 environments, they can use Lucene 
1.3.  Seems reasonable to me.
