I presume, you were able to open index files with older Luke before
upgrading. I browsed apache site and didn't notice  any breaking changes to
index format. Even if were , older indexes still should be readable , as the
changes are usually fully backwards compatible.
If previous Luke did read your index , you may post to Java group , it could
be a bug.
